Dear Colleague

On behalf of the British Burn Association, it will be our great honour to welcome you to the 16th International Society of Burn Injuries (ISBI). The congress will take place between 9th and 13th September 2012 in Edinburgh, the capital city of Scotland.

The 16th ISBI congress returns to the same city where, in 1965, the ISBI approved its first constitution and planned a series of quadrennial congresses. It will as ever be a landmark event of science and networking for all burn care professionals and support groups, with a balanced programme that will interest delegates from across the world. The 16th ISBI congress will be combined with the 45th British Burn Association (BBA) annual meeting.

The congress theme, in keeping with the new vision for ISBI presented by the outgoing President, Dr Ron Tompkins, at Istanbul, is “One World, One Standard of Burn Care”. Topics will ensure promotion of common approaches to good practice that can be applied even in countries with limited health care resource, and will include prevention: of injury, infection, complications, and scarring for instance.

We are confident you will enjoy your stay in this Medieval City, with its magnificent history and architecture. Outside Edinburgh, you’ll also have the chance to enjoy the beautiful Scottish scenery and possibly take a short visit to the home of golf and the oldest university in the world, St Andrews. Edinburgh has direct flight connections to major European cities and nearby Glasgow has transatlantic flight connections. The congress venue, the Edinburgh International Conference Centre, is a few minutes walk from Edinburgh Castle, the famous Royal Mile and a wide range of accommodation to suit all budgets.

The members of the executive committee and the general membership of the BBA are looking forward to welcoming you in Edinburgh.
